Jeopardy Questions

There were two stories in today's Illinois State Journal-Register about government contracts bypassing a competitive bidding process. One was a contract for the state Medicaid program, the other was a contract with a solar company installing solar panels on an elementary school.

In the comment section on both stories, I posted a Jeopardy-type response in the respective order:

  • Jeopardy answer: “Making exceptions for bidding on government contracts.” Jeopardy question: “What is ____”
  • Jeopardy answer: "Circumventing a competitive bidding process for a contract paid for by taxpayers." Jeopardy answer: "What is ____"
Of course, the answer is "Corruption" for both questions. It's unequivocal. I find it strange that the newspaper didn't call it for what it is. But, this is Illinois after all, everyone seems to have gotten used to the idea of playing favorites with taxpayer money.

The political parties point their fingers at each-other while high-fiving with their other hands.
